An incredible book and so relatable for anyone who has had to deal with emotional (or other) abuse in a relationship. All the feelings: the numbness, the frustration, disgust, anger; the relief, the freedom and eventual happiness. This book tells the story of a woman who has broken free from her past, dug all the hooks of abuse out of her heart and mind, looked at the deepest most painful aspects of herself at a soul level and become an incredible source of energy and wisdom in the world. I wish I could have given it more than five stars!

A heartwarming and hilarious collection of work! This book challenged me to evaluate my life, goals and the way I think and feel. Early childhood experiences and family dynamics are truly evident in Dawn’s journey, which has opened my eyes to how my upbringing has also affected me as an adult. I could relate to so many themes and ideas, and believe this book could be classified under self-help!

This is a truly inspiring and eye-opening collection of poetry and short stories. It’s laugh out loud funny at times, and will make you want to punch her ex at others.

I’m rooting for Dawn, and hope she has more to share with us as she continues her journey!

This book is the literary equivalent of drinking a bottle of wine at the kitchen table with your coolest girlfriend. It’s equal parts dishy, hilarious, heartbreaking, and intimate– and you’re a little sad when it’s all over.

Dawn Evans is an engaging writer with a charming and insightful voice, and has a knack for making a reader feel welcome even in her darkest, most vulnerable thoughts.

The short stories and poems in this collection vary widely in both style and subject, showcasing her broad talent. Some of my favourites are “Like Her”, a polaroid-quick glimpse of a woman to be admired; “Tol’s”, a breathlessly racy tale told with just the right amount of humour; “Honey Bee”, a love poem so simple and insightful it ought to be an instant classic, and “Feminist Dress”, a stream-of-consciousness, anti-patriarchal diatribe that nearly had me cheering by the end.

The poems and prose in this collection can be enjoyed as stand-alone pieces, but they also all come together to tell the larger story of a woman who is on a journey of healing and self-discovery.

I expected this to be a good read; I wasn’t expecting the masterpiece that it is. These are honest, relatable, soul stirring stories and poems that will rock you to your core. I cried, I laughed, my soul soared. I will read this over and over again. Every woman needs to read this and it should be a text book for men.
